2. What are the application qualifications of the international undergraduate programs of Zhejiang University?

Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens, in good health, aged from 18 to 30 and graduated from high school. Applicants must abide by Chinese laws and university regulations, and respect Chinese people's custom. To the applicant who abandoned his/her original Chinese nationality then joined a foreign nationality, the university should follow the Document No. 83 (2009) from the Ministry of Education of China.

Applicants to literature, history, philosophy, education and law must have a test score of grade 5 in the old version of HSK or score 210 in new HSK grade 4 or above; applicants to science, engineering, agriculture, medical science, economics and management must have a test score of grade 4 in the old version of HSK or score 190 in new HSK grade 4 or above; applicants to Chinese Language program must have a test score of grade 3 in the old version of HSK or score 180 in new HSK grade 4 or above. For applicants to English-instructed MBBS program, Chinese proficiency is not required.

 

3. How to apply for the undergraduate programs of Zhejiang University? Can Application Materials be e-mailed?

It is necessary to mail the paper materials. Applicants need to log on the Online Application System via the website of International College of Zhejiang University to fill in the form online, print it and sign. Then mail all the application materials required to our university. Application materials and application fee will not be returned regardless of the result of application.

 

4. Do applicants to undergraduate programs need to take entrance examination?

Currently, applicants to the undergraduate programs of Zhejiang University don't need to take entrance examination. Students are enrolled on the basis of their academic performance in senior high school and HSK test grade. Zhejiang University may ask the applicants to submit supplementary materials or take a telephone/video interview if necessary.

 

5. Does Zhejiang University provide scholarships for new international undergraduates? How to apply?

University provides a certain quota of new student scholarship for international undergraduates of Chinese-instructed programs. If you want to apply, please download and fill in the <Application form for new international undergraduate scholarship of Zhejiang University> from the website of International College. Then ask the unit that recommends you to sign and stamp on it. Along with other application materials, the scholarship application form should be mailed to our university.

 

6. Would Zhejiang University accept international transfer students or international Students entering in midterm?

Zhejiang University will not accept international transfer students. If you intend to study in Zhejiang University, you shall apply for our university as a new student after handling procedures of quitting school in your former school.

Applicants, who has been officially registered and studied in Chinese language major in Chinese universities or overseas universities recognized by the Chinese Ministry of Education for more than one year, can ask for starting from corresponding grade according to the actual situation, if the applicants have a test score of grade 5 in the old version of HSK or score 210 in new HSK grade 4 or above.

 

7. How to apply for a residence permit?

International undergraduates who apply for a residence permit need to prepare the following documents and materials and then go to Undergraduate Program Office (Room B125, East 1 Building) to apply the <Certificate of Residence Permit/Foreign students' visa extension>: 1Original and photocopy of Passport;; 2Student ID book;3Receipt or credential of tuition fee payment;4One recent 2-inch photo; 5) <The Certificate of Verification of Physical Examination Record for Foreigners & Overseas Chinese>( required for new students); 6Residence registration certification (Residence registration certification issued by dormitory management department of university , which is required for students dwelling on campus; Temporary residence registration certification issued by the local police station, which is required for students dwelling off campus). After that, international undergraduates should apply for the residence permit at the Department of Entry & Exit Administration, Hangzhou Municipal Public Security Bureau with all relevant documents. 

Those who exceed the specified time will be punished in accordance with relevant Chinese laws for illegal residence. (Special Attention: New students holding an X1 visa shall apply for a residence permit to the Department of Entry & Exit Administration, Hangzhou Public Security Bureau, within 30 days from the date of entry in China, not before the date Prior to entry on the X1 visa.

The Department of Entry & Exit Administration may require students to provide other supplementary materials according to the international student's specific circumstance, such as certification of completion of study, a transcript and a certificate of class attendance issued by the student's former school in China and so on.

 

8. Do international students have medical insurance?

Students on a full scholarship and self-funded students who have paid tuition fees in full (with their time of studies exceeding 6 months) are entitled for the Comprehensive Insurance for International Students, which includes insurances for medical treatments of accidental injuries, hospitalization, accidental disability and death. Only public hospitals on the mainland of the People's Republic of China are applicable for this insurance.

To apply for insurance claims in time within the underwriting cycle of the current year, please keep all kinds of medical records and payment proofs in the course of seeking medical treatment. Students can refer to the introduction of this insurance on the international student insurance website (www.lxbx.net) for details. 9. How do international undergraduates at school pay the tuition fee each year?

Tuition fees of self-funded international undergraduates shall be paid by academic year, i.e. once for the whole academic year. Students shall pay their tuition fees to the specified bank account of the university at the time of registration at the beginning of autumn semester of each academic year, and then register at the Undergraduate Program Office (Room B125, East 1 Building) with payment vouchers or receipts.

 

10. Should international undergraduates register each semester?

International undergraduates shall register at the Undergraduate Program Office of International College (Room B125, East 1 Building) within the period specified in the school calendar at the beginning of each autumn and spring semester. Those who fail to register on time should make application for delayed registration. Those who do not apply for leave or fail to register two weeks after the leave will be regarded as quitting schooling.

 

11. What about the accommodation conditions for International Undergraduates of Zhejiang University?

Zhejiang University possesses different types of International Student Dormitories with different conditions and specifications. The accommodation standard for international undergraduates is double room or quadruple room. During the period of schooling, university may adjust students' accommodated campus according to accommodation resources.

International students who do need to dwell off campus shall ask for permission from International College and sign a house rental contract with the owner afterwards. They must go through registration formalities with local police station within 24 hours from move-in and register with the Undergraduate Program Office of International College (Room B125, East 1 Building) ,along with a temporary residence registration sheet issued by the police station.  In principle, university will not arrange on-campus accommodations for students of off-campus dwelling and students of resuming schooling because of the limited accommodation resource. 

 

12. How to inquire the cultivation programs for international undergraduates?

Please log on to the website of the Undergraduate School of Zhejiang Universityhttp://bksy.zju.edu.cn, click the "Academic Affairs and Teaching Affairs" - "cultivation program", please notice that the cultivation program is divided into two parts: broad categories and majors. Be sure not to ignore any of them.

International students majoring in Chinese language, English, international economics and trade, etc. have separately formulated cultivation program, while those who don't have need to note: "Chinese" and "Survey of China" are compulsory courses for international students, within which students majoring in literature, history, philosophy, education and law (including international politics) must take the course of "Chinese (A) I/II ", while students majoring in science, engineering, agriculture, medical science, economics and management must take the course of "Chinese (B) I/II". In addition, ideological and political courses <Outline of Modern History of China>, <Introduction to the basic principle of Marxism> and <Introduction to Mao Zedong Thought and  theoretical system of socialism with Chinese characteristics> are compulsory courses for the international students majoring in philosophy, politics and economics, while international students majoring in other subjects are exempt from taking them. International students are also exempt from military and sport courses, foreign language courses, general core courses and second class courses.

 

13. How do international undergraduates select courses?

    International undergraduates should learn cultivation programs of their own majors and instructed teaching plan, pay close attention to the notice of course selection and select courses within the time specified by the university. Course selection is an important part of student's autonomous learning activities so they must take it seriously and be responsible for course selection behavior. 14. Will the courses exams that students didn't take or failed be shown in the transcripts?

International Undergraduates should take corresponding courses according to the cultivation programs for their own majors, and participate timely in the course assessments. Whether pass the course assessment or not, all the results will be shown truthfully in the students' transcripts. Please formulate reasonable learning plan according to personal circumstances. Please apply within the time specified by the university if you need to quit a course.

 

15. How do international undergraduates make application for leave?

Students who are not able to attend course studies and other activities prescribed by the university because of illness or other reasons should make application for leave in advance. Those who fail to ask for a leave or those who exceed their permitted leaves will be regarded as cutting classes. Students who cut courses will be criticized or given disciplinary penalties according to the seriousness of the cases.

International students should submit written application in advance for leave. Certificate from hospital of Class A Grade two or above is necessary for applying for sick leave. Leave application less than one week should be examined and approved by the class instructor (Ban-zhu-ren) and tutor (Fu-daoyuan) (Tutoring teacher is responsible for examination and approval of leave application during internship off the campus) and submitted to the Office of Undergraduate Affairs of the school and International College to be put on file. Leave application more than one week and less than one month should be examined and approved by teachers concerned in the school and International College and submitted to the Office of Undergraduate Affairs of the school and International College to be put on file. Written opinions from the teachers concerned in both the school and International College are needed for leave application more than one month, which will then be submitted to the university's Office of Academic Affairs to be approved and put on file. Students who fail to hand in written application in advance because of special reasons can first make a spoken leave application, and make written application afterwards. After completing the formalities, students should make a copy of the leave application form and submit it to the course lecturers.

 

16. Will international undergraduates be allowed to specialty transfer?

International undergraduates are recruited according to specialties and, in principle, not allowed to transfer to other specialties. However, those who indeed need to transfer specialty because of special reasons may apply for specialty transfer within the period of confirming majors specified by the university in spring semester of the first academic year (Applicants must meet the HSK requirement of the specialty they apply to transfer to), but whether be accepted or not depends on the decision of different specialty schools, so it is not ensured that specialty transfer will be definitely successful.

International undergraduates who have confirmed their major or transferred to other specialties once or fail to confirm their majors in specified time, in principle, are not allowed to specialty transfer Students of Chinese Language Program, in principle, are not allowed to transfer to other specialties. Applications from Chinese government scholarship students should be approved by China Scholarship Council and their countries' embassies in China.

 

17. How to apply for schooling suspension or retaining student status?

International undergraduates who are diagnosed by hospitals of Class A Grade two or above as in need of long time rest should suspend schooling. Students who suffer from hepatitis, TB or other infectious diseases should suspend schooling. Female international students can apply for suspension of schooling because of child-bearing. Students with other special reasons can apply for suspension of schooling after getting approval from Zhejiang University.

International undergraduates being subject to military service in accordance with the laws of their home countries can apply to return to their countries for military service and retain student status during that period according to the university regulations.

Application for schooling suspension or retaining student status should be made by the student him/herself, with the attachment of relevant proof materials (e.g., for schooling suspension due to physical problems, submit Certificate from hospital while for retaining student status for military service, submit original or notarized copy in Chinese or English of enlistment notice or military service certificate, etc.)These documents will be verified by the specialty school and the International College and submitted to the Office of Undergraduate Affairs of the school for approval.

Students shall delete the courses of the semester during which they are to leave for schooling suspension or military service at the course selection center after completing the formalities of suspending schooling or retaining student status.

 

18. How to resume schooling at the end of schooling suspension or enlistment?

At the end of the schooling suspension or enlistment, international students can make application for resuming schooling before the new term begins.

Application for resuming schooling should be made by the student him/herself, with the attachment of relevant proof materials (e.g., for schooling suspension due to physical problems, submit Certificate from hospital while for retaining student status because of military service, submit original or notarized copy in Chinese or English of military service certificate, etc.) After paying the tuition fee ,these documents will be verified by the specialty school and the International College and submitted to the Office of Academic Affairs of the university for approval.

After completing the formalities of resuming schooling, international undergraduates can select courses at the open time of course selection prescribed by university for students who have changed student status. The time is generally Friday afternoon in the second week of the beginning of the semester (the specific time is subject to the notice about course selection on the modern academic affairs management system).

Those who fail to go through the prescribed formalities and leave the school without permission and those who fail to resume their studies on time when the retaining period of their student status expires will automatically lead to the cancelation of their student status.

 

19. What formalities need to go through for students who have to discontinue their studies?

International undergraduates who cannot continue to study in Zhejiang University or want to transfer to other universities due to physical, financial or academic problems, etc. must go through formalities of quitting school and changing residence permit, and then be given the certificate of quitting school by the university.

Those who leave school without normally completing formalities of quitting school will be treated as leaving the school without permission by the school. They will not receive the certificate of quitting school.

   

20. What is the function of Student ID Book? 

The Student ID Book, which students need to show when taking exams or handling relative affairs, is an important valid certificate to prove the student status of Zhejiang University. Students are required to register within the period specified by university in each semester. Students who have their Student ID Books stamped will be regarded as completing the registration. In case of lost, please go to the Undergraduate Program Office of International College (Room B125, East 1 Building) to apply for a new one. The time of application for a new Student ID Book is April, June, October and December. For detailed arrangement, please read the notice from the website of the Undergraduate School of Zhejiang University.

 

21. What are the details of the attendance recording system by swiping student cards?

Except those majoring in Chinese language, all international undergraduates need to swipe their student cards every month to record attendance.

The time for swiping card: working days before 20th of each month (e.g., Sept. 1 C Sept. 20).

The place for swiping card (choose one from the following three addresses): Room B125, East 1 Building, Zijingang Campus (Undergraduate Program Office of International College), the reception desk of International Student Dormitory Building B of Zijingang Campus, the reception desk of No. 10 International Student Dormitory of Huajiachi Campus.

 Please abide by the record system of swiping card every month to guarantee the safety of on and off campus accommodation. The record of swiping the card will be correlated with the record of registration at school, awards and punishments, etc.

 

22. Do international undergraduates have the chance of overseas exchange?

The same as Chinese students, international undergraduates also enjoy the chances of overseas exchange. 23. How do international undergraduates apply for scholarships?

Usually, international undergraduates apply for the scholarships in spring/summer semester of each academic year and the result will be published in autumn/winter semester. The specific time and application method will be published on the website of International College (http://iczu.zju.edu.cn) and the Wechat official account "zjubklx". Currently, the scholarships available to current international undergraduates include International undergraduate scholarship of China Scholarship Council (CSC) and International undergraduate scholarship of Zhejiang University.

 

24. What are the honorary titles for international undergraduates?

Besides the scholarships, the international college  awards the following honorable titles to international undergraduates, such as Outstanding Award, Excellent Students, Excellent Student Cadre and Excellent Graduate, etc according to the students academic performance, behavior, social practice, academic achievement, etc in order to promote the progress and development of international undergraduates.

 

25. What if international undergraduate offend China's laws and school disciplines?

International students must obey Chinese laws and comply with rules and regulations of Zhejiang University; they must respect China's social morals and customs. International students whose violation of Chinese laws constitutes a crime will be punished legally; those who break the university's disciplines and regulations shall face disciplinary penalties, based on the severity of the cases, in accordance with Zhejiang University Regulations for Dealing with Student Disciplinary Offences and Zhejiang University Regulations on Campus Security, etc.                                                                                                                                                                                              

Every student should keep the <International Student Handbook> well, read and comply with all the provisions stipulated in it.

 

 26. What campus activities can international undergraduates participate in?

Zhejiang University advocates international campus atmosphere, encourages communication and integrity between Chinese students and international students. International students of our university can participate in various culture, sport and association activities according to their interests. Every year, university holds various large campus activities, e.g., Student Festival, Sino - foreign Music Festival, International Culture Festival, etc. International students are encouraged to proactively participate in these activities. International College will also support and encourage communication between international students from different countries

27. Is it necessary to inform the Undergraduate Program Office if international undergraduates change their contact information?

If international undergraduates change their relevant information such as mobile phone number, residence address, email, etc, please make sure to go to the Undergraduate Program Office of International College (Room B125, East 1 Building) at the first time to register their new information, which will facilitate contact with teachers, release of various notices and avoid missing important information.

 

28. How do graduates and International students in the case of completion of studies handle formality of leaving school?

Graduates and International students in the case of completion of studies shall go through the formalities required on the Electronic Deregistration Procedure Form. The first step: International students shall complete verification of graduation eligibility at the specialty school; The second step: log on "my ZJU" websitehttp://my.zju.edu.cn. The user name is your student number and the password is the last six numbers of your passport number; The third step: enter "application center" column, click the system of Electronic Deregistration Procedure Form and check whether you have passed the preliminary verification and the remaining formalities that you need to handle (some departments will automatically pass it within 24 hours after the preliminary verification by your specialty school); The fourth step: print the Electronic Deregistration Procedure Form which has been completed, sign your name and submit it to the Undergraduate Program Office of International College (Room B125, East 1 Building)

 

29. How do graduates collect their graduation certificates, degree certificates and transcripts?

After having the electronic Deregistration Procedure Forms completed and printed, the graduates can apply for their graduation certificates, degree certificates and transcripts at the Undergraduate Program Office of International College (Room B125, East 1 Building). The certificates must be collected by graduates in person.

 

30. What is the longest length of schooling for international undergraduates?  

The longest length of schooling for international undergraduates to study in university is 2 years in addition to the prescribed length of schooling of the specialty. Those who fail to complete the studies within the period will NOT be registered. For students who retain their student status because of returning to their home countries for military service, the time of military service is not to be calculated into the length of schooling. The time of suspension of schooling will be calculated into the length of schooling.
